I am like ridiculously fixated on this moment. She’s upset about the pictures on her phone and so SHE THROWS HER WHOLE PHONE AWAY. And like when I first watched this episode I laughed. I laughed a lot. And then later she gave someone her number and I was like THEY CAN’T CALL YOU YOUR PHONE IS IN THE GARBAGE. THE GARBAGE.
But like in retrospect it makes me sad. I’m like awww look at how sad she is about what’s on her phone. Look at her doing the Serena thing and dealing with her sads by just cutting shit out of her life. Like okay fine, but that wasn’t me, that’s not me, that’s not a thing, I’m done with it. I’m gonna just throw it in the trash and walk away. It’s just not going to be a thing. Which has to exist in contrast to Blair’s Blair thing. Blair not only wouldn’t throw her phone away because she was mad at the pictures on it, she COULDN’T. She would just try and stare at them until they became new photos. Serena’s just DONE.
Which pretty much makes this such a great tone setter for the series because like heightened reality with genuine emotion. Because practically this is RIDICULOUS. RIDICULOUS. But like something I really enjoy about Gossip Girl is that I end up discussing ridiculous shit in a serious voice and like realizing it partway through. And it’s like oh, oh way wait, um that means a lot to me but also the scenario is completely absurd. And that’s all I want from television.
